Have you ever wondered how aliens might navigate and reach our solar system? To round out the second season of The Life Cycle, Eva and John offer a coda, titled "Cosmic Hitchhikers". Having started the season by looking at the various stories humans have told to inspire themselves to move beyond their immediate realms, they bring the listener on a far-out journey of their own.

Join them as they delve into Professor Irina Mullin’s ‘Cosmic Hitchhikers Hypothesis’ which proposes a range of ideas for how extraterrestrial civilizations might navigate the vastness of the cosmos. Wasn’t it Bunkminister Fuller who called Earth, which is after all moving rapidly through space, a spaceship?

Professor Mullins proposes that extraterrestrial travelers may in fact be utilizing free-floating objects as a means of interstellar travel during moments of planetary evacuation. We know that the possibility of traveling between solar systems is incredibly hard, so much so that it is hard to imagine life surviving. Radiation alone would not only batter any craft but also any life hunkered down inside it. But instead of tin cans, maybe we should imagine entire worlds, much like the one we currently live on? Worldship, anyone?

This episode marks the end of a beautiful and wild Season 2, and we hope you’ve enjoyed it as much as we have. The coda is full of mind-expanding bits of information, so we don’t want to give too much away. Head on over to The Life Cycle Podcast’s website to listen to it today, or wherever you get your podcasts!
