What’s Happening in Berlin this April?
Wed Apr 10 2024The weather is starting to turn in Berlin and you can feel the excitement coursing through the streets! April doesn’t only bring the promise of more sun, it also means that there will be new events to attend around the city. Here are some that we are looking forward to in particular:
Gallery Weekend Berlin - April 26-28
If you’re looking for a cultural activity this month, then Gallery Weekend Berlin is an event you should definitely check out! Founded in 2005, it celebrates a collection of artists and galleries all around the city. From Friday, April 26th to Sunday, April 28th, participating galleries open their doors to the public, presenting new works by a wide range of artists, from emerging talents to established figures in the art world. The galleries are dispersed throughout the city, ensuring that, regardless of your location in East or West Berlin, you'll find galleries to explore.
Berlin Design Week - April 27 - May 5
It’s no secret that Germany has been and still is a hub for the design world. From the infamous Bauhaus all the way to contemporary to poster art, Berlin has played a key role in the shaping of Germany’s design scene. It is no surprise then that the city hosts a robust design week every year. Starting April 27th and going until May 5th you can participate in workshops, exhibitions, showrooms, and more at Berlin Design Week. This year the event will focus on how design can positively impact our society and inspire innovation. What makes Berlin Design Week special is its mix of both structured and free-form events (which are arranged by the designers themselves).
Cherry Blossom Festival - April 13th & 14th
Spring in Berlin means a few things. It means that we are (almost) through the worst that Berlin weather has to offer and it also means that the city is full of beautiful cherry blossoms. While you can find these amazing trees in full bloom all around the city, there is a Cherry Blossom Festival in the Garten der Welt (Gardens of the World) that celebrates this spring phenomenon. Held this year on April 13th and 14th, the Cherry Blossom Festival offers its visitors a collection of entertainment and performances set within the Japanese, Chinese, and Korean gardens. Don’t miss out on seeing this beautiful wonder! The blossoms don’t last forever.
ALFilm (Arabic Film Festival)
We hate to say it, but by the time this blog is published, Berlin’s weather might have taken a turn back into the cold and grey days of winter (but we really hope not!) If this is the case, then it might be best to plan for some inside spring activities. The festival is organized by the non-profit association Center for Arab Film Art and Culture eV and showcases a diverse collection of Arab movies. It was created to be a space in Germany to combat stereotypes about the Arab world through cinematic art. The festival, which has been happening since 2022, takes place in venues across Berlin. So, if it’s raining in April, ALFilm is a great place to take shelter from the weather. These are just a few examples of the events happening in Berlin this April.
